Monmouth Shire Hall

Monmouth Shire Hall

With funding announced by the National Lottery Heritage Fund in Spring 2023, our proposals for upgrading the Grade I listed Monmouth Shire Hall to showcase the Monmouth Town Museum and provide enhanced community facilities are due to be delivered in 2025. We formed and led the team with all specialist disciplines necessary for the project.

We combined in one plan solutions to Monmouthshire’s needs to house the museum collections [some of which are of national importance] as well as all the support accommodation required for a modern museum. Our analysis of activity plans, retail advice and servicing resulted in a space-efficient way to improve economic sustainability. We provided circulation and wayfinding plans demonstrating how the visitor flow will give full access to the collections and provide a commercially advantageous position for the shop.

Our sensitive handling of the Grade I listed fabric proposed an enhanced entrance and, with the use of projections in the loggia, create a stronger presence for the Shire Hall in Agincourt Square. Internally, careful considering of the integration of services in the building fabric resulted in proposals for an environmental upgrade that will reduce the running costs of the building for Monmouthshire.
