Bayham Street
Bayham Street
Conversion and enlargement of former piano warehouse in Camden to create new offices for a successful and expanding digital design company. Formation of a new basement and insertion of a new mezzanine more than doubles the available floorspace. A new roof construction introduces daylight and ventilation into a constrained site, and fire curtains and thoughtful configuration of staircases keeps the internal space as open as possible.
This project aims to express the materials of construction and avoid as far as possible the encasement of either structure or services. This is partly to maintain as much as possible the sense of volume, and partly to pursue the architectural goal of honesty to component parts.
