Becket Keys
Becket Keys
Enclosing the eastern side of the main play area this new 3-storey building aims to contribute to the evolving heart of, and make an attractive new pupil entrance for, a very successful and growing secondary school. A new walkway to the playground side defines a perimeter circulation pattern and the combination of 6th Form and Community Space on the ground floor adds an interest and active frontage to the site boundary. Wide new gates and good quality paving creates a generous pupil entrance in the corner of the site that will reduce congestion and improve the visual identity of the School.
Avoidance of corridors at ground level allow the design to achieve the highest quantity of internal space for the available budget. Passive ventilation stacks and opening lights protected by louvres allow the simplest of M&E solutions while maintaining compliance with standards for comfort conditions. The timber frame structure and simple detailing contribute to a highly economic design that has nevertheless been used by the Local Authority Planning as an example of good design.
