Dovercourt Road
Dovercourt Road
In this remodelling of an Edwardian house we try to make a kitchen and dining space that is at the heart of family life. The brief given by the occupants was for a kitchen that didn’t feel like a kitchen, one not dominated by the technology and process of cooking. Timber was used extensively to give a warm feel, space provided for books and games and a strong connection provided to the garden.
We designed a zinc-clad box to join the kitchen to the wash-house and planned a large rooflight over the box to create a brightly lit, tall wet-area for washing-up, drying of coats, wellies and other things. A long horizontal slot is cut into the upper part of this area to give a view of a large lime tree and allow the evening sun to penetrate deep into the room.
