Duke's Wharf

Landscape-focused mixed-use scheme on a long-vacant 2.2 Ha riverside city-centre site in Norwich. A new south-facing lawn and hard landscape is enclosed by a family of new and existing buildings providing 149 new flats, 5 townhouses and 3 commercial units. Crossing the lawn, a new public route connects the River Wensum to The Lanes, Norwich's centre for independent shops. 51 new trees and a cycle contraflow add to the urban improvements.

Adopting a previous masterplan developed by Ingleton Wood, the site proposals develop the connection between the development and the river. A new pontoon for kayaks and small craft is accessed by the public through the central landscape and a two-storey addition to the 1946 office building make the most of the riverside location. With a new pump, roof-mounted photovoltaic panels and renewable energy supplies the design will generate 65% of its energy demand from renewable sources.
