Frederick Street
Frederick Street
These proposals aim to maximize the value of the plot and respond sensitively to the varied streetscape and create 4 attractive flats with flexible living spaces and external amenity space. The plot is a shallow infill in a street with Regency terraced houses and a mix of buildings from other ages. The plan uses sliding doors to achieve spacious rooms within the site constraints and the section uses the lifted ground floor to protect privacy in the lower flats. Negotiating the change in the street elevation from 3 to 4 floors, the top floor flat is given a roof terrace that will also provide attractive views towards the south.
Light-coloured bricks are used to respond to the light-coloured render of the Regency houses and anodised aluminium is intended to reflect the intense and changing light of the maritime climate. The design was awarded First Prize in the RIBA New Homes for Neighbourhoods competition.
