Ideas College
Ideas College
Fit-out of an office unit overlooking the Thames to accommodate The Ideas College, a 48-place alternative provision school for children with an interest in creative subjects. The design aims to maximise the value of the view and creates an open gallery space with plenty of books and opportunities for independent study. This large multi-use area can be used to display creative work by students and for termly shows and gatherings.
Use of exposed soffits and timber-slatted ceiling construction is intended to retain the sense of height and robustness of the base-build concrete frame. A central service spine keeps the perimeter clear of ducts and allows an exposed soffit. Internal surfaces are carefully considered to maximise opportunities for display while maintaining a high proportion of transparency and passive supervision.
