Kalsa Academy - Sefton Park

Khalsa Academy - Sefton Park

During their 6th form education, pupils are transitioning from child to adult life and the educational facilities they are provided with need to reflect this. The brief to develop a special facility for the Academy in an enclosed site, with a connection to the main building, makes for an interesting challenge that could greatly enhance the two current sites and provide aspirational places for learning. To enable the School to operate as a campus with children moving between buildings throughout the day, the main focus of the development at Sefton Park is to remodel internal spaces to make them suitable for a 6th-form centre and add a new multi-use hall.

In response to the brief, the proposals look to refurbish and remodel the existing Focus School and build a new multi-purpose space, a provision not yet available at the Academy. Together, these provisions will complement the education facility currently housed at Pioneer House – creating a campus style learning environment. This campus configuration will allow the older 6th formers to have a space that feels as though it is their own, while the benefits of older and younger children interacting will not be lost as students move between the two buildings to access various facilities.
