Maidstone Museum

Innes Associates led the team in this ambitious project for the modernisation of Maidstone Museum, and provided specialist consultancies to ensure the project contributed to the economic regeneration of the town. Maidstone Museum has collections of regional and national importance but a building that has grown incrementally over time, constraining the story-telling and without key spaces expected in a modern museum.

We proposed a series of changes to create daylight-led wayfinding, more impactful landscape spaces and a coherent series of galleries. With the help of the collections team, we derived cohesive layouts for story-telling through objects and presented the proposals to Maidstone Council and Trustees of the Museum. We assisted the Museums’ Director in compiling and submitting a NHLF Funding Bid.
